Alice in Wonderland was first published in 1865 with black and white illustrations by Sir John Tenniel, who was such a perfectionist that he destroyed the first 2000 copies made because the quality was too low for his taste. These amazing woodcuts were scanned directly from two different original 1890s copies and are the only edition colored by Tenniel himself.
